Gainesville Police identified Brooke Elizabeth Smith, 24, as the victim of a fatal shooting Tuesday night at a condominium complex on Northwest 23rd Boulevard. The suspect, Xavion Perry, 31, fled to Daytona Beach, where he led law enforcement on a vehicle chase before being found dead. A second source indicates the homicide stemmed from a dating violence situation.

A Gainesville-area man named Gerald Morris was sentenced to life in prison Thursday after investigators found thousands of child pornography files on hard drives seized from his home. Morris had turned himself in last July following the seizure. A judge handed down the life sentence this week.

Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 26-year-old Joseph Henley after he allegedly grabbed a hunting-style rifle and threatened to shoot a woman who had let him stay at her home. The confrontation began when the woman asked Henley to leave following an argument. He is being held at the Alachua County Jail without bond.

Gainesville Police officers responding to a Northeast 7th Street short-term rental found two people staying there without the owner’s permission, along with drugs, removed light bulbs, and a broken dog door. Taylor Marie, 28, was arrested after a small glass pipe was found in her bag, and she told officers she had been at the property since Monday after meeting another man there. A cleaning crew member representing the property owner was in the process of estimating damages at the time of the report.
