1. Acceptance
By accessing gainesvilleledger.com (the “Site”) you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Site.
2. About the publication
The Gainesville Ledger is published by Fixed Form Holdings LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. The Ledger is a daily roundup of Gainesville-area news. It aggregates and summarizes coverage from local outlets, publishes original reporting from contributing journalists, and accepts press releases from organizations.
3. How aggregated content is produced
Aggregated stories are summarized by an artificial intelligence model (Anthropic’s Claude) from publicly available reporting and reviewed by a human editor before publication. Every aggregated cluster on the Site cites and links to the source articles it drew from. The Ledger does not claim authorship of the underlying source material.
4. Intellectual property
The Ledger’s editorial selection, arrangement, section classifications, neutral summaries, and steel-manned point / counterpoint sections are © Fixed Form Holdings LLC. Source articles linked from the Ledger remain the property of their respective publishers. You may share excerpts and links to Ledger pages with attribution. You may not scrape, mirror, or republish the Site in bulk without written permission.
5. User submissions
Press releases submitted via /press-release: by submitting, you grant Fixed Form Holdings LLC a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide license to publish, edit, summarize, and distribute the submission, in whole or in part, in connection with the Ledger. You represent that you have authority to grant this license and that the content is truthful and not defamatory.
Tips submitted via /tip are confidential. We use them as starting points for reporting and do not publish your tip text verbatim. If you provide contact information, we may reach out for follow-up.
Journalist submissions via /submit/[token]: by submitting, you grant the same license as press releases. You retain authorship credit (byline). We may edit for length, clarity, and house style before publication.
6. Prohibited conduct
- Don’t submit content you don’t have rights to.
- Don’t submit defamatory, harassing, threatening, fraudulent, or otherwise illegal content.
- Don’t impersonate other people or organizations.
- Don’t scrape, mirror, or republish the Site in bulk.
- Don’t attempt to circumvent authentication on
/admin, /submit/[token], or any other restricted area.
7. Disclaimers
The Ledger publishes news summaries with attribution. We make a good-faith effort to summarize accurately, but the canonical account of any story is the source reporting we link to. Readers should consult those sources for full context.
The Site contains links to third-party sites. The Ledger is not responsible for the accuracy, content, or availability of those sites.
Steel-manned point and counterpoint sections present the strongest version of opposing positions for reader consideration. Their inclusion is not an endorsement of either position.
The Site is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Florida law, Fixed Form Holdings LLC and its agents, contractors, and contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of the Site. Aggregate liability for any claim arising from your use of the Site is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Fixed Form Holdings LLC from claims, damages, and reasonable attorneys’ fees arising from content you submit to the Site (press releases, tips, or journalist articles), or from your breach of these terms.
10. Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the Site will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming.
11. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
12. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the current version. Continued use of the Site after changes means acceptance of the updated terms.
