Gainesville survivors and advocates gather for second annual gun violence memorial

Dozens of survivors, advocates, and community members attended the second annual Survivors of Gun Violence Memorial in Gainesville on Saturday, hosted by Impact GNV during Gun Violence Awareness Month. The event honored those killed by gun violence and offered support to those living with its lasting effects. Organizers said the goal was to sustain the conversation about community safety beyond the awareness month itself.

Woman killed when ATV rolls over in Cross City

A 42-year-old woman died late Sunday night after losing control of an all-terrain vehicle in the Cross City area, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. The ATV overturned near the intersection of Northeast 145th Lane and Northeast 152nd Street, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said the crash remains under active investigation.

Alachua County deputy fired after arrest on assault charges in Dixie County

Alachua County Sheriff Chad Scott announced Saturday that deputy Leviticus Murray was terminated after being arrested on aggravated assault and battery charges stemming from a confrontation at a Cross City home. Investigators say Murray assaulted multiple women during the incident and threatened to shoot bystanders. The sheriff’s office completed its internal investigation within 12 hours of the arrest before moving to dismiss Murray.
