NOAA forecasts below-normal 2026 hurricane season as June 1 start date arrives

NOAA has released its 2026 Atlantic hurricane season outlook, assigning a 55% probability of a below-normal season and only a 10% chance of above-normal activity. The season officially runs from June 1 through November 30. Forecasters and local outlets are also cautioning Florida residents that storm impacts — including inland flooding, tornadoes, and strong winds — can extend well beyond a hurricane’s projected track, and that many residents face financial barriers to full storm preparedness.
