UF researcher tracks sea turtle movements to curb Florida boat strikes

A University of Florida graduate student is using satellite tags to map the coastal movements of loggerhead, green, and leatherback sea turtles in Florida waters. The goal is to pinpoint high-risk zones where turtles and vessels most frequently collide, as Florida leads the nation in boat-related turtle strandings. Findings are intended to bolster conservation measures such as Palm Beach County’s Sea Turtle Protection Zone.
