A 38-year-old Gainesville woman named Tommi Chambers is facing additional charges after deputies say she concealed fentanyl in a body cavity and brought it into the Alachua County jail following her arrest on Tuesday. Chambers had originally been taken into custody during a traffic stop on drug-related charges before the contraband was discovered Thursday night.

Drew Worthmann has filed a lawsuit against Alachua County Sheriff Chad Scott, alleging his rights under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law were violated when a deputy arrested him in September 2025 following a confrontation with fiber internet installers at his Tioga home. Worthmann had been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon after allegedly displaying a handgun and ordering workers hired by the Town of Tioga and IQ Fiber off his property. The charges were subsequently dropped, prompting the lawsuit against the sheriff’s office.

A 62-year-old Gainesville man, Michael Taylor, was arrested and is being held without bond in the Alachua County Jail on charges of molestation and sexual battery of a minor. Investigators say an 11-year-old girl reported that Taylor had inappropriately touched her repeatedly over several months, beginning when she was 10, and that he used candy, soda, and money to bribe her. The case came to light during a Gainesville police investigation into a separate matter.
