American Heart Association donates CPR kits to Alachua County schools for summer training

The American Heart Association Heart Walk provided 12 CPR training kits to Alachua County Public Schools through a grant from the HCA Foundation. Elementary students attending Hidden Oak’s summer camp were the first in the district to use the kits, practicing emergency response scenarios alongside several University of Florida football players. Participants will gain hands-on familiarity with life-saving techniques but will not earn formal CPR certification.

UF College Republicans take First Amendment fight to federal trial

A two-day bench trial before U.S. District Judge Mark Walker began Monday over the University of Florida’s decision to disband its College Republicans chapter. The group’s attorneys argue that interim President Dr. Donald Landry and other university leaders violated the First Amendment by deactivating the organization after a student was accused of performing a Nazi salute. Judge Walker had previously denied both sides’ motions for summary judgment, sending the dispute to trial.
