Alachua County clarifies large-scale data centers are banned under current rules

Alachua County officials have confirmed that large-scale data centers are not permitted under the county’s existing Comprehensive Plan or land development code, and could only be built if both documents are updated through a public process. The County Commission heard a separate presentation on the potential impact of a Florida Legislature property tax reform ballot measure heading to voters in November. The county’s June 10 newsletter also highlights free fiber broadband and digital literacy events on June 11 at three local library and fire rescue locations, a virtual employment law seminar on June 30, and openings on two environmental advisory committees.
