UF trustees and Board of Governors chairs clash ahead of July 1 president vote

The chairs of the University of Florida Board of Trustees and the Florida Board of Governors traded public accusations during a Wednesday meeting in Tallahassee, with the dispute centering on governance concerns at UF. Despite the conflict between Mori Hosseini and Alan Levine, both sides agreed to move forward with a confirmation vote on Stuart Bell as UF’s next president, now set for July 1. The vote had previously been delayed by Levine from its originally scheduled date earlier in the week.

Bradford County arms school staff as added layer of campus security

Bradford County sheriff’s officials say their school guardian program equips trained staff members with firearms to supplement existing School Resource Deputies on campuses. Each participating staff member must complete extensive firearm training, a psychological evaluation, and a background check before being authorized. The program grew out of discussions that began the day after the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting, when county officials abandoned prior plans and pivoted to developing the guardian model.
