High Springs police chief placed on indefinite administrative leave amid investigation

High Springs City Manager Jeremy Marshall placed Police Chief Antoine Sheppard on administrative leave effective June 23, citing an investigation into unspecified complaints. Sheppard is barred from contacting city employees or accessing city facilities without authorization and will remain on leave until further notice. The chief says he was not informed of the specific allegations, but noted his recent opposition to public safety budget cuts may have played a role.

Gainesville gun violence alliance launches public website with data and resources

The Community Gun Violence Prevention Alliance, a partnership formed in 2024 among the City of Gainesville, Alachua County, and Santa Fe College, has unveiled a new website offering crime statistics, archived meeting videos, a community calendar, and links to crisis and volunteer resources. The site has been in development since late 2025 and draws on data from both the Gainesville Police Department and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. It is intended to give residents ongoing access to the Alliance’s strategic planning work and upcoming events.
