Gainesville police responded to Depot Park on Friday evening after a large group of teenagers gathered there and multiple assaults were reported. Officers worked to restore order around 9 p.m. and directed everyone in the park to leave.

Zip at Haile Quarry in Newberry launched what is billed as Florida’s longest dedicated disability-accessible zipline on Friday. The six-line course, built with ADA-compliant ramps and transitions throughout, includes a line named Jordan’s Jamboree in memory of co-owner Casey Glan’s son, who died at age 4 from cerebral palsy.

Doris Simonson, a Gainesville resident turning 100 on July 7, celebrated early with family and friends at a local bowling alley. She has bowled continuously since 1943, keeping up the sport through decades of military moves with her husband and into her centennial year, still hitting the lanes once or twice a week.

Gainesville Police arrested 35-year-old Cornelius Henderson on Thursday after he allegedly fired a shot into the air and threatened a woman and her child when she declined to give him a lighter. Officers located Henderson using the Flock gunshot-detection and license-plate-reader system. Records show he was released from state prison in October and carries prior convictions for car theft and aggravated battery.
