Heat advisory stretches into third day across North Central Florida

A heat advisory remained in effect Thursday and Friday for the Gainesville area, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the upper 90s and heat index values exceeding 100 degrees due to a combination of high pressure, humidity, and Saharan dust. Outdoor workers were urged to stay hydrated as meteorologists identified the two days as the week’s most dangerous for heat exposure. Staff at the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo adapted their routines by offering animals additional shade, water, and frozen food treats to help them cope with the prolonged heat.
