Gainesville breaks ground on two new public safety facilities this month

The City of Gainesville is holding groundbreaking ceremonies in July for two major public safety construction projects: a replacement Fire Station #3 at 1025 NE 13th St. on July 22 and a new Southwest Public Safety Center at 4320 SW 47th Way on July 31. The new fire station, estimated at $14 million, will be a 16,773-square-foot facility with three engine bays serving northeast Gainesville, while the 29,754-square-foot Southwest Public Safety Center near Archer Road and I-75 carries a $22 million price tag and will include four engine bays, a Public Works warehouse, and a community meeting room. Both projects were approved by the City Commission in 2023 and are largely funded through the half-cent infrastructure surtax approved by Alachua County voters.
