Gainesville breaks ground on Fire Station 3, its first new fire station in a decade

The city of Gainesville has begun construction on a new Fire Station 3, a 16,773-square-foot facility with three engine bays to be built near the intersection of NE Eighth Avenue and Waldo Road. The project replaces a station that has been in service since 1960 and is designed to accommodate modern apparatus, advanced medical response equipment, and crews working 24-hour shifts. Construction is expected to wrap up by late 2027, and the new firehouse is part of a broader revitalization effort for the northeast municipal park complex.
