UF Health Shands ranks No. 3 in Florida, top 50 nationally in five specialties

U.S. News & World Report placed UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville third among 321 Florida hospitals and recognized it nationally in cancer, geriatrics, OB-GYN, neurology and neurosurgery, and pulmonary and lung surgery. UF Health Jacksonville also earned a top-20 statewide ranking, coming in at No. 18. Officials credited the system’s integration of patient care, research, and education for the distinction.

Alachua County reverses reassignment of 25 teachers days before school year starts

Alachua County Public Schools walked back a decision that had relocated 25 teachers to low-performing schools, allowing them to remain at their original campuses. Interim Superintendent Kamela Patton had ordered the moves the previous week, but the district reversed course after pushback from teachers and others. The president of the Alachua County Education Association described the mood among affected teachers as relief.
