Gainesville Police arrested Steven Hardwick, 66, late Thursday night on burglary and property damage charges after he allegedly used a concrete block to smash through the rear door of the pro shop at Ironwood Golf Course on Northeast 39th Avenue. Surveillance footage captured the incident, and officers located Hardwick less than two miles from the scene still wearing the same clothing visible in the security video.

Alachua County held a ribbon-cutting Friday for Black Lake Preserve, a 287-acre natural area south of Lake Santa Fe in Melrose. The preserve, purchased in 2020 for just over $2 million through the Wild Spaces Public Spaces surtax, offers more than three miles of hiking trails for wildlife viewing along with accessible sidewalk features. About 32 acres fall within the Santa Fe River System’s Outstanding Florida Waters designation, and the site shares roughly 9,500 feet of wetland boundary with Lake Santa Fe and Black Lake.

Alachua County deputies arrested 43-year-old Lakeyra Ross on Wednesday night after she allegedly struck a man multiple times in the head and neck with a pocket knife, causing deep cuts, then attempted to stab him with an electric drill as he tried to flee. The victim, who lives with Ross, sustained a bruise on his shoulder consistent with a drill bit. Ross faces charges of aggravated battery and assault in what deputies described as a domestic incident.
