Alachua County animal shelter halts intakes and adoptions during respiratory outbreak
The Alachua County Shelter has suspended new animal intakes and adoptions after a respiratory illness began spreading among animals housed there. Testing is underway to identify the cause, while staff focus on treating sick animals and working with rescue partners to reduce the shelter population. The facility remains open only for owners reclaiming lost pets.
