UF engineering student’s beach safety app hits 30,000 downloads

A University of Florida junior studying aerospace engineering developed BeachLens, a mobile app that aggregates real-time coastal data — including tide conditions, water quality, and rip current warnings — to help beachgoers plan safer visits. The app draws on data from federal and state agencies and allows users on-site to submit their own reports, such as shark sightings. Launched in early spring 2026, it has been downloaded 30,000 times and was selected for a Miami-based ocean innovation incubator program.
