UF lands $2.32M NIH grant to use AI in predicting epilepsy surgery outcomes
A University of Florida neurology team has secured $2.32 million in NIH funding to develop an AI-driven system that combines advanced brain mapping and intracranial recordings to forecast how epilepsy surgery might affect a patient’s language, memory, and communication. The project is led by Abbas Babajani-Feremi, director of the MEG Laboratory at the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases at UF Health, in partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. The goal is to give patients and clinicians more individualized risk information before surgery is performed.
