UF study finds emotional support buffers financial stress in relationships
A University of Florida study of 84 unmarried couples found that financial stress consistently spilled over into relationship tension, but partners who offered emotional care and understanding helped reduce that effect. Researchers tracked couples daily for a week and found that practical problem-solving did not show the same short-term benefit, though future longer-term studies may reveal a different picture. The study, led by UF psychology graduate student Zhongchi Li and Professor Gregory Webster, was published in the journal Personal Relationships.
