Gainesville man charged with homicide in May 10 stabbing death

Gainesville police have charged Henri Hart, 43, with homicide and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Ricky Morrow, 53, who was found with stab wounds on Northwest Third Street and later died at the hospital. The stabbing occurred on May 10, the same night a separate, unrelated shooting on Northwest Sixth Street killed 17-year-old Jaheim Black. No suspect has been announced in the shooting case.

Convicted felon jailed after striking victim with firearm in Alachua County

Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 30-year-old Clark Hobbs on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after he allegedly struck someone with a laser-sighted handgun during an argument. Authorities say Hobbs left an altercation with the victim and a witness, then returned armed; the victim had retrieved a bat before being struck. A background check revealed Hobbs had a prior burglary conviction in Minnesota dating to 2017.

Armed robber threatens Hawthorne gas station employee with knife, flees with cash

An Alachua County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a robbery at a Chevron station on U.S. Highway 301 in Hawthorne late Sunday night, where a masked suspect vaulted the counter, assaulted an employee, and stole a significant amount of cash at knifepoint before fleeing northward on foot. Investigators have determined the incident is unrelated to a separate armed gas station robbery that occurred elsewhere in eastern Alachua County on May 10. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for any information that could help identify the suspect.

Gilchrist County sex offender arrested for child molestation months after prison release

Travis Wade Mathis, 36, a registered sex offender from Trenton, was arrested by the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office on charges of lewd or lascivious molestation of a child under 12. Authorities opened an investigation after a 911 call reported a possible sexual battery, and deputies took Mathis into custody two days later. The arrest came shortly after his release from prison on similar prior charges.
