Downtown Gainesville’s Streatery project reaches milestone as brick pavers go in

Workers have begun laying brick pavers along SW Second Street as part of the $4.5 million Streatery project, with that section expected to reopen to traffic by the end of June. The City Commission approved the project in March 2026 to convert SW First Avenue between South Main Street and SW Second Street into a curbless, pedestrian-friendly corridor featuring decorative lighting, landscaping, and seating. Full completion is anticipated in October.
